Detail of the plan of the institution
for the next year:
We have developed an Institutional
Master Plan for the academic year
2008-2009 that highlights the
programmes based on our emerging
priorities. A few major events have
been planned to keep us move
meaningfully towards excellence.
These include:
1. As an institution of education,
we wish to place special emphasis
upon nurturing emerging researchers
who can benefit from and contribute
to development of new pedagogical
patterns. In continuation of this
activity we have decided to organize
a national level conference on
“Emerging Trends in Pedagogical
Research” which will serve as a
forum to budding researchers for
intellectual engagement and
enquiry. This programme has been
scheduled tentatively to be
organized in January 2009.
2. Education being the balance
wheel of the social machinery has a
vital role to eradicate the social
evils of the day. A national level
UGC sponsored seminar on “Combating
the evils of Aids and Drug Abuse
using Student Power” shall be
organized in the month of August by
the Health Club to strengthen the
social commitment of our student
community.
3. “Philately” is not a mere pass
time activity. It is a promising
hobby that extends our horizon of
knowledge. To generate awareness
among college students on the
educational value of Philately, a
state level “Philately Exhibition
cum Workshop” is to be organized in
the month of November.
4. A literary campaign that is
area - specific, time – bound,
volunteer – based & cost – effective
is to be organized by our students
in selected under developed areas of
our hometown. We plan to sensitize
our students to the need for
participation in literacy campaigns
and recruit them as volunteers to
carry out the work.
5. As we feel that we need to
produce teachers who are well
informed on social evils that affect
and are affected by education, an
exhibition on social awareness among
students shall be organized. This
shall cover vital social themes like
child labour, gender discrimination,
alcoholism, cultural degeneration
and environment pollution.
6. The students and staff shall
work together to create a programme
that shall boost the students’
academic skills. The areas that can
be worked on include:
X Study skills and time
management.
X Effective listening and note
taking.
X Test taking strategies and
test anxiety.
7. Spoken English Modules will be
developed for students found to lack
oral fluency in English. Once
completed the programme shall have a
hugely positive impact on the
teaching potential of our students.
8. Tutorial groups shall focus on
educational guidance of students
with the aim of removing the
learning difficulties of the
students. Slow learners and under
achievers shall be identified in the
beginning of the course and
appropriate measures shall be taken
to boost the achievement of these
students.
9. We take pride in maintaining a
green campus in a place known for
water scarcity. More tree saplings
shall be procured and the students
shall be made to participate in
sapling plantation programme.
10. The clubs of our college like
English Club, Research Club, History
Club, Mathematics Club, Eco Club,
Health Club, Tamil Club and Science
Club , IT Club shall design their
own projects and programmes and
execute them to fruition as in the
previous year. These programmes
shall cater to the diverse interests
of our students
11. “Youth Festival” a mega event
that provides opportunities to
student teachers to showcase their
talents in varied cultural items
shall be organized by the Students
Council of our college for all
College of Education affiliated to
Manonmaniam Sundaranar University.
12. We draw a considerable part of
our strength from our alumni. Many
of our alumni hold honourable
positions in reputed educational
institutions. We have planned to
make the best use our alumni as
resource persons for the various
programmes to be organized in our
college in the academic year
2008-2009.
13. We encourage our teachers to
prepare e-teaching modules in their
area of specialization. A few of
our teachers shall actively involve
themselves in the task of generating
e-learning resources that can be of
much use to e-learners worldwide.
The management shall provide
adequate support to undertake this
work.
14. The University Grants Commission
has sanctioned 45 lakhs for
extending the hostel of our
college. This work shall be
completed in the next year and such
an expansion shall enable us to
provide individual rooms and add to
our plans for campus improvement.
In additional to the above planned
activities, we shall organize others
that would prepare our students for
academic and post college
achievement.
